Mollie Anderson brings more than 20 years of public- and private-sector human resources management experience to her role as Director of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services, a position to which Iowa Governor Thomas J. Vilsack appointed her in December 2002. She was reappointed by Governor Chester J. Culver in January 2007. Anderson is responsible for an $80 million central administrative services agency, providing human resources, technology, accounting, purchasing, fleet, print, and building and grounds management.

Anderson is an award-winning administrator with experience in building teams and achieving desired results. She combines strong analysis and planning skills with proven leadership ability. She has advanced interpersonal ability to assess people, manage conflict, negotiate settlements and direct continuous quality improvement.

Her work is characterized by the strong belief that people are an employer’s greatest asset. She is known as an implementer whose goal to “have the right person in the right job at the right place and time with the right tools” often solves problems before they happen.

Anderson’s other public-sector positions include Director for the Iowa Department of Personnel, Human Resources Director for the State of Nebraska, Deputy Commissioner for the Nebraska Department of Labor, and both Executive Director and Job Training Services Manager for the Job Training of Greater Nebraska program. Her private sector experience includes serving as Human Resources Director for Lincoln, Nebraska-based Duncan Aviation. Anderson was elected to the Nebraska Southeast Community College’s Board of Governors.

Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in behavioral sciences from Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), and has earned the SHRM professional designation as a senior human resources professional. She was the 2005-2006 President for the National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) and a member of the National Association of State Personnel Executives (NASPE), having served as NASPE president in 2002 and a member of its executive council. Anderson was also a member of the Council of State Government Special Task Force on Workforce Planning and is a graduate from the Leadership Lincoln program.

In July 2005, Anderson graduated from the Kennedy School of Government’s Program for Senior Executives in State and Local Government at Harvard University. In 2001, Anderson was selected for the Toll Fellowship Program in 2001, a competitively selected leadership program for emerging state government leaders sponsored by the Council of State Governments. She also received the Eugene H. Rooney, Jr. Award for Leadership from NASPE in 2001, the President’s Award from the Private Industry Council, the National Association for Counties’ Award for Exemplary Rural Development Programs, Outstanding Young Women in America, and Who’s Who in Government.

A Nebraska native, Anderson resides in Indianola, Iowa.
