Power Restored to State Capitol and Wallace Building
Malfunction related to electrical equipment slated for replacement
DES MOINES — The State Capitol and Wallace Building will be reopened tomorrow, Friday, August 24. Power to both buildings has been restored and all testing has been completed. The malfunction was caused by electrical switchgear equipment that produced an “arc flash” which could have created an electrical explosion. The equipment, located in the sub-basement of the Capitol, is near an area which houses electrical, gas, fiber, and security components. Work to replace and isolate these components is currently underway; completion is expected in October 2007.
State officials continue to monitor the area and testing continues on the equipment to ensure the safety of all building occupants and visitors. For more information, please contact Deb Madison-Levi at 515-281-7056.
