State Recognized for Accident Prevention
DES MOINES — State workers are doing their jobs more safely than ever before, saving taxpayers money in lost time and productivity. The Iowa Department of Administrative Services General Services Enterprise (DAS-GSE) was recognized by the Iowa-Illinois Safety Council for outstanding achievement in accident prevention at a ceremony held April 18 at the Grand Harbor Resort and Waterpark in Dubuque. The award was part of the Safety Council’s 55th Annual Professional Development conference and Expo and was presented by Paulette Moulos, Executive Vice President and COO of the National Safety Council and Charles E. Adkins, Regional Administrator with the US Department of Labor-OSHA.
The on-the-job accident incidence rate for DAS-GSE is 2.36 compared to a national average in the same industry of 7.2.
“People tend to overlook simple rules for safety,” said Cynthia Houlsen, Safety and Health Consultant with DAS-GSE. “When people don’t keep an eye out for danger, it can reach out and bite them. Accidents don’t just happen.”
Iowa DAS-GSE is responsible for upkeep and maintenance for all buildings and structures in the Capitol Complex as well as maintenance of the state’s fleet of vehicles and supervision of all construction of state-owned buildings.
