A new approach to selling or disposing of surplus State property

DES MOINES — There's a whole new way to shop for old stuff - and it's all right at your fingertips. The Iowa Department of Administrative Services (DAS), after assuming management of surplus equipment and supplies from Iowa Prison Industries, is adopting a new approach to selling and disposing of surplus State property by placing products online. Formerly, surplus items were sold at a storefront operation. Now, customers can shop for items, including computers, office furniture and a diversity of equipment quickly and efficiently from the nearest computer with Internet access.

DAS has contracted with Purple Wave, an online auction service, to assist state departments with their surplus property. Purple Wave is a growing online network of live auction facilities across the United States and sells - as a broker through unreserved public auctions - a broad range of items such as high-value personal property, industrial equipment, motor vehicles and real estate. To access the Purple Wave website, please visit http://www.purplewave.com/.

Iowa Prison Industries will continue to operate the federal surplus program at 2323 Dean Avenue.
